Moonwell Cove’s artisan market contains many beautiful things.

Handmade journals.

Restored furniture.

Painted ceramics.

Soft linen, bright ribbons, fragrant pastries, and enough decorative poultry to concern Beatrice Whitecomb.

Most of these things remain where they are placed.

Recently, however, several purchases have developed other ideas.

An old brass token appears beside a completed receipt.

A repaired object returns to the person who still owes one final answer.

Price cards exchange stalls overnight.

And the market bell rings whenever someone insists that an arrangement is close enough.

The tokens do not select what anyone should buy.

They do not decide what something is worth.

They merely seem to recognize when an exchange is not as finished as everyone hoped.

Willa Cresswell intends to restore order before the market’s permanent permit review.

Ezra Nash would settle for getting his shelves back.

The market appears to have plans for both of them.

The receipt has been marked complete.

The object has been returned.

The vendor and customer have both agreed that nothing further is owed.

So naturally, the brass token has appeared again.

Willa Cresswell knows how to make value visible.

Ezra Nash knows how to recognize what is worth preserving.

Neither of them has explained why the old market ledger keeps placing their work beside the same unfinished exchanges—or why the communal table refuses to remain empty after closing.

Somewhere among the canvas stalls, paper tags, restored furniture, and carefully negotiated prices, another object has moved.

The market may know which exchange remains open.

It does not know what Willa and Ezra will choose when the practical matter is finally settled.
